Ten Movies on an Island: Westerns

You already know most of these are going to be John Wayne films. Basically all but three and there's two more in the honorable mentions. What can I say?
1. Stagecoach (1939) - John Wayne & Claire Trevor, Thomas Mitchell, Andy Devine
2. Angel and the Badman (1947) - John Wayne & Gail Russell
3. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) - John Wayne
4. Rio Grande (1950) - John Wayne & Maureen O'Hara
5. Broken Lance (1954) - Robert Wagner, Spencer Tracy
6. The Searchers (1956) - John Wayne
7. Rio Bravo (1959) - John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson
8. Alias Jesse James (1959) - Bob Hope
9. Cat Ballou (1965) - Jane Fonda, Lee Marvin, Michael Callan, Dwayne Hickman
10. The Shootist (1976) - John Wayne & Lauren Bacall, James Stewart, Ron Howard
Honorable Mentions: The Comancheros (1961), El Dorado (1966), Duel at Diablo (1966)

In case you were wondering, my favorite Westerns on the small screen are Maverick, Have Gun Will Travel, and most episodes of Bonanza (though if IS exasperating how none of the boys EVER get married).

Tomorrow, my top ten Disney films!

    1. I watched Broken Lance when I was crushing on Robert Wagner haha. Alias Jesse James is hilarious. You will get a kick out of the final scene ;)

Have only seen #2, 4, and 7 on your list and all of your honorable mentions. I gave my brother the entire Wanted: Dead or Alive series a couple Christmas's ago :)

    2. Ahh, Robert Wagner! Maybe I should recommend that one to my mom, she likes him a lot.

Looks like Alias Jesse James is on YouTube, so next time I'm in the mood for a new western comedy, I'll try it out!

W:DOA has some of the tightest writing I've seen on a TV show. The amount of story they could pack into 26 minutes is incredible!!!

    3. I'll have to watch it one of these days.. Hope you're in the mood for a new western comedy soon! ;)

    4. Wait, you haven't seen W:DOA??? OH my goodness! Prepare to fall head over heels for Steve McQueen.

    5. I have a confession to make... I haven't liked Steve McQueen since seeing him in "The War Lover." I know, I know, it's time to give him a second chance...

    6. That's pretty fair. I haven't seen The War Lover, but there are some of his roles that make me annoyed or even angry. But I first saw him in The Magnificent Seven, then The Great Escape, and I watched those over and over and over as a teen, plus a handful of W:DOA eps, so my affection for him was cemented before I saw things like Baby, the Rain Must Fall and Tom Horn and Bullitt. I really love Hell is for Heroes too, but his character there makes me all sad and sometimes mad.

But in W:DOA he's as wonderful as can be.

    7. Glad you understand ;) There are some other actors I've slowly been coming around to that I didn't like because of the films I had seen. I've been wanting to watch The Great Escape with my brothers but every time I'm in the mood or it they aren't.

    8. And there will always be some actors that never do anything for you. Like, I just can't get interested in Henry Fonda, even though I like some of his movies just fine.

Then, of course, there's Alan Ladd -- I'd seen him in several things, but it wasn't until this spring that I suddenly fell in looooooooove with him. So funny how that happens!

    9. Agree about Henry Fonda!!!
